Safety in old chimneys
Toast specialise in the relining, repair and safe use of chimneys and fireplaces in thatched, listed and period properties. The reason we are specialists in this area is because we are highly trained, knowledgeable and experienced.
90% of thatch fires are caused as a result of chimneys. The main problem is heat transfer through the chimneys brick work and onto the thatch roof, the thatch acts like an insulator and draws the heat until it ignites.
Another danger is the use of green or unseasoned wood, this would result in the chimney becoming tarry which is a cause of chimney fires or even worse a house fire.
One way to make sure your chimney is safe is to have a Toast operative carry out a CCTV survey to check the structure of the chimney.
We have many methods of making your chimney safe to use, one of these methods is a specialist relining system called FuranFlex® (please see our chimney lining for more information http://www.toastsouthern.com/furanflex-lining/)
This type of service has become ever more increased because of the dangers and hazards created from old age, damaged and worn chimneys.
Please use these links provided, as a guide, as they are experienced bodies on chimney safety.
